A DAWN OF A NEW DAY
The theme for this year’s convention is “Dawn of a New Day”.
As we embark on this new season of renewal and change, we will take some time to look at the opportunities and challenges that lie before us as a diocese, kicking off our time of transition.
KEYNOTE: The Rt. Rev. Whayne Hougland
Our keynote speaker is the Rt. Rev. Whayne Hougland, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan.
Bishop Hougland was consecrated as Bishop of Western Michigan in 2013. He grew up in a Roman Catholic family in central Kentucky. He attended Sewanee School of Theology and was ordained a priest in 1998. Bishop Hougland believes in developing a personal rule of life, and patterns his own after the Rule of St. Benedict, which includes prayer, study and daily reflection on scripture. He and his wife Dana reside in Grand Rapids, MI.
This convention will have two breakout workshop sessions focused on the theme of transition and renewal. Every person at convention will have the opportunity to participate in both sessions.
Adaptive Leadership – The Rt. Rev. Whayne Hougland
Bishop Hougland will talk through the concept of “adaptive leadership” – what does it mean for the diocese and for the worldwide church? How might flexibility and risk taking help us live more fully into God’s call?
Transition Information Session and Q&A – Diocesan Leadership
Sit down with some members of Standing Committee and Diocesan Staff to learn about our transition process. What is coming up for Eastern Michigan? What do we need to discover? How are we continuing to live into our mission in the midst of a Bishop vacancy?
Exhibitors & Booths
Our exhibition hall is a great place to learn more about ministries and programs taking place inside and outside of the Diocese of Eastern Michigan. If you would like space to feature your ministry, please register your booth no later than October 6th.
There is no cost to host a booth at convention. We hope to see exhibits that are visually appealing, staffed, and interactive.
