Happening: A Retreat for High School Students

What is “Happening”?

The High School young people of your congregation are invited to join other high schoolers from around the state for a retreat called Happening. Happening is a renewal weekend intended for high schoolers, that is a shared ministry of the Episcopal Dioceses of Eastern Michigan and Michigan.

Adults attend as chaperones, but teenagers lead the weekend FOR teenagers. Really, teenagers lead the entire weekend. Twice a year, young people from The Episcopal Dioceses of Michigan and Eastern Michigan come together at parishes around our dioceses to talk about God and share the unconditional love that this community is all about. Happening is open to all high school youth. The team, which facilitates the weekend experience, consists of young people and adults who have previously experienced the weekend.

The weekend is full of singing, fellowship, surprises, fun and friendship and is designed so that individuals are given opportunities to discover more about themselves, Christ, their families and their world. The Happening weekend finishes late on Sunday afternoon with the celebration of Eucharist.
