Friends in Christ,
Due to a vacancy, the Standing Committee of Eastern Michigan seeks nominations from those with interest in serving as our Eastern Michigan diocesan representative to The Episcopal Church’s Global Mission Advocate Network.
At the previous General Convention of The Episcopal Church, each diocese was charged to appoint a “Global Mission Advocate” to promote the study and implementation of the Guiding Principles for World Mission, alongside Asset Based Community Development and the Sustainable Development Goals. The group is responsible for providing guidance to the Standing Commission on World Mission for the practical application of these Guiding Principles.
The following is an overview of responsibilities and activities of the appointee:
- Develop a network of people knowledgeable about global mission engagement in each diocese of The Episcopal Church
- Share resources and knowledge on best practices for global mission engagement
- Promote missionary programs of The Episcopal Church within the diocese, including the Young Adult Service Corps (YASC) and
- Episcopal Volunteers in Mission (EVM)
- Attend quarterly meetings on Zoom (mid-afternoon, weekday)
- Attend an annual in-person network gathering
- Serve as a liaison between the diocese and TEC’s Office of Global Partnerships
- Serve as a point of contact for congregations and groups in our diocese for international relationship development
- Serve as an advocate for increased global mission engagement in the diocese
Please prayerfully consider indicating your interest and willingness to serve in this role or whether there are others in your congregation with whom you might share this invitation.
To express interest, please contact Canon Katie Forsyth at kforsyth@eastmich.org and include a description of your experience and/or interest in this area. She will compile all names for our Standing Committee to consider and determine an appointment at our February meeting. The deadline to indicate your interest is February 8th.
Yours in Christ,
Barbara Ilkka
President, Standing Committee
